Brief Itinerary

Day-1

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and city tour

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. You'll be greeted at the airport and escorted to 4* hotel. After lunch, take a city tour to Gandan Monastery where you will see a huge gold plated Buddha, a symbol of Mongolian national pride and cultural revival, Ulaanbaatar city museum, Central Square, and National Museum of Mongolia where you will see artifacts from Mongolia and Central Asia from the Stone Age to present time. Overnight in the hotel. (L+D) (Approx. paved road 50 km)

Day-2

Eagle valley in South Gobi

An early morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Dalanzadgad. Discover Mongolia team will be waiting for you. Drive to Yol Am (also called Eagle valley) – hike to wonderfully picturesque place with ice even in summer, and surrounded by sheer rocky walls, forming incredible canyons. This area is located in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park that encompasses the "Three Beauties" peaks and the most easterly points of the Altai Mountains. Visit Gobi museum. Overnight in tourist camp. (B+L+D) (air 560 km, 1.5 hour & approx. paved road 45 km, 30 min)

Day-3

Khongor sand dunes and camel ride

​After breakfast, drive to Khongor sand dunes. These are Mongolia's largest sand dunes, reaching a height of 300 meters in some areas. Visit a camel herdsman family to experience their lifestyle, culture and traditions. After lunch, you will be riding a camel to explore the Uujim valley for 2-3 hours. The two-humped Bactrian camels are very comfortable to ride as they walk slowly and gently, and you will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably in between them. Our camel guide will lead you safely through the sand dunes. The sand dunes change color with each hour of the day, from yellow to silver to rose-color (at sunrise or sunset). In the evening, chance to stargaze in the Gobi. Overnight in tourist camp. (B+L+D) (Approx. dirt road 190 km, 4-5 hours)

Day-4

Bayanzag, land of the Dinosaurs

Morning, climb to Khongor sand dunes with a panoramic view of the nature. After lunch, we will drive to Bayanzag, (known as the Flaming Cliffs where the first nest of dinosaur eggs were ever discovered in 1922) a site famous for the remains of the Dinosaurs which lived there 60 million years ago. What a chance to walk around where the Dinosaurs once roamed and also get to know saxaul trees and other classic desert vegetation! On the way, see interesting Havtsgait petroglyphs. In the evening, photoshoot the flaming cliffs and watch a documentary about this wonderful place. Overnight in tourist camp. (B+L+D) (Approx. dirt road 170 km, 3 hours)

 
Day-5

Ongi Temple Ruins, Meditation cave & interesting petroglyphs

After breakfast, we will drive to Ongi Temple ruins which used to have about thousand lamas. This is a ruin of a big monastery Bari Yonzon Hamba on the bank of Ongi river. Ongi Temple once was one of the biggest temples in Mongolia but destroyed by The Stalinist repression in 1930’s. After lunch, visit a Meditation cave of Buddhist monks (3 km). Optional sauna and body massage is available. Overnight in the tourist camp. (B+L+D) (Approx. dirt road 170 km, 3-4 hours)   

Day-6

Karakorum and Erdenzuu
After breakfast, continue driving to Karakorum, the symbolic ruins of the 13th century capital of the Mongol Empire. On the way, we will enjoy beautifully changing landscape from semi desert Gobi into forest steppe. Visit Erdene-Zuu, the oldest monastery, with 108 stupas, built in 1586. Then visit Karakorum museum and see the Great Mongol state period, Stone Age, Bronze Age, Ancient state period halls. Overnight in tourist camp. (B+L+D) (Approx. dirt road 240 km, 4-5 hours)

Day-7

Tour to Arkhangai province & relax at Tsenkher hot spring

Drive to Arkhangai province. Take a city tour of Arkhangai province and visit Zaya Gegeen Temple, which was first built in 1586 but expanded in 1679 when it had five temples and housed around 1000 monks. After lunch, drive to Tsenkher hot springs, sulphar springs that emerge from the ground (300m) at 70 degrees celsius. Relax in the outdoor bath. Overnight in tourist camp. (B+L+D)

Day-8

Horgo extinct volcano and Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake  

Drive to Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. After lunch, drive to Horgo extinct volcano where you will see the spectacular mountain scenery and endangered species of flora & fauna. It's surrounded by the Khangai Mountains, which reach up to 3000 meters above the sea level. Over comparatively small area here, there are a dozen or so extinct volcanoes. Then we will ride a horse for 2-3 hours. Explore the big volcano crater area. White Terkh is a good spot for bird watching and photographing. Stargazing in the evening at the lakeshore. Day-9

Drive to Jargalant and visit nomad family

After breakfast we will visit a local horsemen family where you have an opportunity to experience their way of life, their culture and traditions. Dinner is real authentic Mongolian barbecue, prepared in the traditional style with hot stones. Overnight in tourist camp. (B+L+D)

Day-10

Tour to Murun town

After breakfast drive to Murun town, the capital of Huvsgul province. Take a city tour including a local market & a local museum. A chance to observe local’s part of everyday life at the market. Relax in a local hotel. (B+L+D) (Approx. dirt road 260 km, 5 hours)   

Day-11

Huvsgul National Park & hiking

Today, we will drive to Huvsgul Lake, the deepest and purest lake in Mongolia. You will have 2 days for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful lake at the end of your tour. On the way, visit a fantastic historical area including 2-3m high deer stone in Uushgi uvur. After lunch, hike in the surrounding forest mountains to have a better look of the crystal blue lake. Taking photos and exploring and enjoying the wildlife, flora & fauna of Huvsgul lake area. Optional kayaking activity is available. Overnight in tourist camp. Day-12

Visit Mongolian Tsaatan & reindeer & boat tour

After breakfast, visit a local Tsaatan and their reindeer. Reindeer are herded for their antlers, a lucrative medicinal material as well as for their milk and meat. You have a chance to take your memorable photos with the reindeer. After lunch, boat tour to Hui Khad rock and bird watching. Farewell bonfire and share your feedback of the tour with your group members. Overnight in tourist camp. (B+L+D)

Day-13

Fly back to Ulaanbaatar

Drive back to Murun for your return flight to Ulaanbaatar. Optional visit to Narantuul market and shopping for souvenirs & cashmere in Ulaanbaatar. In the evening, we all attend a live performance of Mongolian National folklore. Overnight in the hotel.  (B+L+D) (Approx. paved road 130 km, 2 hours & air 560 km, 1.5 hour)

Day-14

Departure from Mongolia

After breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel to the airport. (B) (Approx. paved road 25 km, 20 min)
